Default Deep Wound Mechanics ?

Scenario:

Target monster has 500 HP. I hit it with a skill that does " +1 damage and applied deep wound"

Result? 399 HP and a deep wound condition. Ok so far.

Question is: what happens if the condition is removed with a plain vanilla removal (no healing)?

Is the result a target with 399 HP? or 499 ?

If the former, could I then hit it again and the result would be 298 health and a deep wound? I can't really tell which it is in game, since monsters don't really cooperate.

last Q: in the initial case above (399 HP and deep wound) if I use the same skill, the result is 398 and deep wound correct?

Correct...if such a skill existed.

499 Hp -100 (deep wound) ..condition removed = 499

That is if they have not have Natural health regain during that time...( most monsters do)(some do not)

1 health per second regain if I'm not mistaken ( could be)

Well it seems like Deep Wound actually subtracts 100 health from you when its applied.

Example: I have 300/500 health. I get hit for 1 damage and deep wound.

Result: 199/500 health and deep wound. If I then take 1 damage from a nerf ball (having then "taken damage after deep wound") I have 198/500.

My question is then, if the condition is removed, do I suddenly have:

1)198/500 health (and no DW) or

2) 298 and no deep wound?

It seems like #1 to me, since I can remember hitting something with a deep wound, having a monster remove it (without a complete heal) and then hitting them again and getting the second "100 damage" bonus.

So which is it?

It would be, 2) 298 health and no deep wound.

Grrr, i think you're right. Re-reading the Wiki wording seems to point to #2

Damian is correct. Also, keep in mind you can always pay a visit to the Isle of the Nameless around Great Temple of Balthazar and check out your skills and game's mechanics on training dummies, or training instructors. Whilst monsters don't really cooperate, those wooden guys are great to test such questions in the field

Damian is correct.

Receiving a deep wound removes 100 max-hp and 100 current-hp. Being cured of deep wound restores 100 max-hp and 100 current-hp.

A better visual depiction than the one we actually have in-game would be to grey out 100hp off the left side of the life bar.

Also interesting: Receiving DW without simultaneous damage does not trigger the game checking if you are dead. If you have less than 20% current hp, this can put you into the infamous "negative hp" status, which is a very interesting place to be. Many, many updates ago, things like Eviscerate did the DW after the damage, so leaving targets in negative hp instead of dead was a lot more common. At that time it was key for PvP axe users to have a quick follow-up hit to finish off their targets.
